Examining The Body

The art of inner body awareness is the epicenter for my spiritual and movement progress. Inner body awareness is, in its simplest terms, focusing your awareness/focus on the body. It is the process of getting out of our own heads and learning to inhabit our bodies leading to more intense experiences of joy and bliss. There is immense intelligence in our bodies which so many of us have lost touch with; this is where our intuition resides. The first time I stumbled upon this idea was in Echkart Tolle’s “The Power of Now,” a truly powerful and transformational book. The body is the portal into the unmanifested realm, in other words a direct link to the source of bliss itself.
Brief inner body awareness meditation:
  1. sit or lay down comfortably with your eyes closed
  2. take intentional breaths in order to settle into the present moment
    1. a helpful step is to be grateful for your body, thanking it for the simple fact that this complex creation works at all.
  3. say the name of an organ, muscle, bone, or section of the body you want to draw your attention to first.
    1. the easiests places to focus are the hands, feet, and heart. With practice you will be able to focus on anything in your body including chakras.
  4. you will begin to feel a tingling and warmth in the area you place your focus. if you do not feel this automatically, visualize the area being radiant with life and vibrant with light.
    1. be patient and forgiving of yourself if you do not experience it right away, this is a skill which takes practice.
  5. feel your entire body full of life and bask in this new found sensation.
